The Tragic Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice Modern Retelling of Ancient Greek Myth Paper

The Tragic Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice Modern Retelling of Ancient Greek Myth Paper

Question Description

I’m working on a history project and need a sample draft to help me understand better.

A Modern Retelling of Ancient Greek Myths

Ancient Greek myths are still very relevant today. We can learn valuable lessons from some of them – like the story of Daedalus and Icarus that we watched and read. If anything, we can get great entertainment from them.

Step 1

For your project, you will choose a Greek myth from the list below and rewrite it or retell it for the present day. You can change the characters, the setting, the dialogue, and the events to modernize the story. But the general plot, theme, and message/lesson should remain the same.

Here is a list of Greek myths that you can choose from.

Watch the video from Ted Ed. If you want to learn more about the myth you choose, you can Google it and read up on it. I would recommend taking notes as you watch the video so that you do not have to watch it several times. It might also help you to watch some of the other videos with related characters!

  • The Myth of Arachne
  • The Myth of Hercules and the 12 Labors (8-bit)
  • The Myth of Icarus and Daedalus
  • The Myth of Prometheus
  • The Tragic Myth of Orpheus and Eurydice
  • The Myth of King Midas and his Golden Touch
  • The Myth of Sisyphus
  • The Myth of Pandora’s Box
  • The Myth of Jason and the Argonauts
  • The Greek Myth of Talos, the First Robot
  • The Myth of Jason, Medea, and the Golden Fleece

Step 2

After watching the video (and researching more if you want), write a summary of the story. Your summary should be AT LEAST 8 sentences long. You should include the plot, theme, and message/lesson in your summary. Plus it will help you with your retelling.

Step 3

Retell your myth in a modern context! Your retelling can be done in several formats:

  • Write it as a story (multiple paragraphs)
  • Create a cartoon (either a comic strip or animation)
  • Make a short video
  • Write a play or script
  • Social Media Page

REMEMBER: The general plot, message/lesson, and theme should stay the same. But the characters, setting, events should change in your retelling to reflect a more modern take on the story.

(What you are turning in)
